Using Online Databases to Research People’s Backgrounds

If your company hires many people from diverse backgrounds, you may occasionally find yourself accepting applications from people who claim military service. Honorably discharged veterans often make excellent employees as they have proven track records for loyalty, service, and dedication. But we have all heard about how some people may provide false credentials. We don’t want to be deceived by anyone.

Fortunately there are ways to search military records when you are performing background checks on potential employees. Although you may not be able to verify everything in a person’s military record you should be aware that it is possible to confirm their military service with the government.

Many companies are very blessed to be able to hire honorably discharged military personnel, many of whom are trained in skills that are critical for business functions including communications, vehicle maintenance, aircraft maintenance, piloting aircraft, working large vehicles and heavy equipment, and even performing basic security and personal protection functions.

Medical facilities, police agencies, private security companies, government subcontractors, schools, and other organizations with important liabilities should be sure to examine the credentials of all applicants who claim military experience in order to reduce the chance of hiring someone who may turn out to be the next big news story in your town.
