Quality Cars: a Primer on the BMW

Bayerische Motoren Werke – otherwise known as BMW – have a reputation that stretches around the world. The small blue/white logotype – depicting a propeller cutting through a blue sky (they used to develop aeroplane engines) – is synonymous with high quality. The reason we see so many older BMWs still being driven around is proof of the strength of the BMW engine.

BMWs have an understated class about them; lets look at the older generation models of the M3 BMW for example. Anyone who knows anything about performance vehicles will take notice when they see one pass them on the motorway. The incredible power under the bonnet (taking just 5 seconds to reach 60MPH) is camouflaged by the basic 3 series body shape. It’s the unostentatious design of BMW which adds to the popularity of the brand.

The German car manufacturing company have never stopped in bringing out new models, and in the decade have presented a number of two-door sports cars – the X and Z ranges, which have broken away from the rather elegant 3, 5 and 7 series.

What appeals to a number of buyers is that BMW used cars do not lose their value nearly as much as other brands, because of the quality of build, and durability of BMWs. In fact, it’s noteworthy just how frequently you come across a BMW dealer on the main street, due to the demand for second-hand BMWs.

BMW have always been at the cutting edge of driving science – for example, their present-day engagement in the F1 championships hands them a chance to examine their apprehension of performance engines in a racing environment. Outside of F1 racing, BMW were presented Engine Of The Year Award 2009 for three categories which underlines their commitment to engine optimization and performance.
